About Stonewave Taiko

Our Story

From the Beginning: A Journey of Rhythm and Culture

Stonewave Taiko was born in 2014 in the picturesque town of Bega, New South Wales. Our founder, David Hewitt, envisioned a space where the rich traditions of Japanese taiko drumming would harmoniously blend with the vibrant culture of Australia. Over the years, what started as a small ensemble has grown to include over 35 enthusiastic members, each bringing their unique background and energy to the group.

Our Mission

Cultural Fusion and Community Engagement

At the heart of Stonewave Taiko lies a commitment to fostering a deep appreciation for taiko drumming while creating a distinct local style. By merging traditional Japanese rhythms with contemporary Australian influences, we aim to craft performances that resonate with diverse audiences. Our dedication to community engagement is evident through our regular participation in local festivals and events, as well as educational programs designed to inspire the next generation.
